 Celebrating the Life of
Carlos A. Torres
Sunrise: 10/17/54 - - - - - - - - - - -Sunset: 4/18/04
This issue of the Western Transportation, Inc. “Strickly Business” is dedicated to the memory of Carlos A. Torres, driver of truck # 418, who
passed away on April 18, 2004. He is survived by three daughters, 1 grandchild,
his mother, two sisters , and numerous other family members.
Our company is grateful to have had the privilege of not only
working with Carlos but also knowing him on a personal level. He will live on
through our memories of his unique sense of humor, honesty, dedication to his
family, friends, job, and never ending phone calls to everyone in his address
book.
Carlos always wanted to be a trucker ever since he was a young boy.
He was not only a truck driver he took pride in doing his job well. Carlos lived,
loved, and breathed trucking. Anyone can drive a truck but not everyone has
diesel running through their veins. He was a true “Road Warrior”.
Everyone who knew him has a story to tell about his outrageous
sense of humor. He was one of the biggest jokesters around.
The entire Western Transportation, Inc. staff and team members
would like to offer our condolences to his family. We will miss him tremendously.
We love you Carlos but God loves you best! “Keep on trucking in
Heaven!”
"For every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted."
-Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 KJV |

Drivers get a load of this! Our June “Strickly Business”
newsletter is filled
with useful information,
cool surprises and
fun activities!
WTI would like
to also welcome our
newest team members;
Paul Buster and Craig
Thomas of Topeka, KS
who has recently
joined our fleet. They
are driver and codriver
of unit # 512, a
1997 Freightliner.
When you see them
during your travels
make sure you make
yourself known.
As we all know before
each trip drivers are required to |
make a pre-trip
inspection of their vehicle.
So, before you start running
towards your truck,
for your daily pre-trip inspection,
turn to the 60
word crossword puzzle below. Are you really
knowledgeable about tractors
and trailers? In addition
to the steering wheel
and clutch how many parts
can you find? This puzzle
will definitely make you
want to grab a gear instead
of a pencil!
When you have finished the puzzle keep your pencil in hand! While writing,
send us your funniest road story |
for the new “Diary of a
Driver” wall. We know you have
a million of them! At the end
of the year the driver with the
funniest story will be awarded
a prize. Remember to keep it
clean!
All drivers are urged
to incorporate faxing the
signed bill of lading when you
pick up and deliver a load into
your daily routine. WTI has
been experiencing a huge delay
in billing and payroll. Keep in
mind that, IF
YOU DELAY NO
ONE GETS
PAID!

It is no secret that fuel
prices are at
an all time
high. Although oil and
gas companies are not
cutting the cost of fuel,
WTI is with our membership
of the Carrier Purchasing
Program. This program
is designed to save
carriers and owners operators
who take advantage of
the COMDATA card
“Bucks
at the Pump”.
To find out more
on how you can save
“Dollars on Diesel”, refer to
the updated fuel directory
mailed to you or call the
Safety Department
for details.
- According to the
EPA, a big rig consumes
up to one
gallon of diesel fuel
for each hour at
idle, using as much
as 2,400 gallons of
fuel every year per
truck.
- How can a driver
avoid having a preventable
breakdown?
Complete
coverage on this
topic in the July "Strickly Business” newsletter.

The FMCSA’s Cardiovascular
Medical Advisory Panel has
adopted new guidelines for medical
examiners to judge blood
pressure levels for truck drivers.
Instead of the current two
stages, the new guidelines address
three stages of hypertension
that can trigger disqualifications.
High blood pressure is
caused by many different factors
including obesity, heavy
alcohol use, high salt intake, aging,
a sedentary lifestyle, stress,
low potassium, magnesium, and calcium intake, and resistance to
insulin.
Usually high blood pressure
has no symptoms. That’s
why it is important to have your
blood pressure checked on a
regular basis and to follow your
health care provider’s recommendations
on home blood pressure
monitoring.
Untreated high blood
pressure increases the risk of
heart problems, stroke, kidney
problems, and eye problems.
To reduce the risk of
complications talk to your
doctor about routine
check up’s or log onto www.webmd.com for further
information.
WTI encourages every
driver to make their
health a priority.

The highway patrolman spotted a car driving dangerously slow on a freeway. When the patrolman
pulled the car over he found the driver was an elderly lady with four other older women as passengers. “Lady,” said the officer,” your slow driving is almost as dangerous as speeders. You need to try to keep
the speed limit.”
“But I always keep the speed limit.” replied the lady.” I was doing the speed limit when you stopped
me.”
The officer asked, “What do you think the speed limit is on this road?”
The dear old lady said, “I just a moment ago saw the sign, U.S. Highway 22.”
“But lady,” warned the officer,” that is the highway number, not the speed limit.”
The lady was very apologetic and of course no ticket was given. The officer noticed all the passengers
seemed pale and had a frightened look in their eyes. As he turned to leave the car, wondering if his
presence had been the problem, he turned again and said to the driver,” Ma’am, are you sure all your
passengers are OK?” “Oh, they will be in a few minutes,” she said, “we just turned off Highway 120.”
The “Tractor and
Trailer” trivia crossword puzzle
